My Story
Just a Little About Me……
I learned to crochet at age 7 when my babysitter taught me how to crochet a purse! I loved the feel of the yarn and the hook. It felt amazing to create beautiful pieces. Throughout the years I made countless gifts for my many aunts, uncles, friends, and cousins. and, of course, any new baby!! These mostly fell in the categories of blankets, booties, slippers, mittens, scarves, little baby outfits, etc… I had also engaged in many other artsy types of ventures, including a seamstress of making all my clothes and then, later, clothes for my children as well as professional cake decorating while being a stay-at-home mother. I have always enjoyed creating things, it brings me such great joy.
Around the age of 17 I taught myself to knit and there began a whole additional adventure on inspiration for more creations. As I raised my beautiful three children I ventured off to college at age 33 when my kiddos were then in school…. That began my 25 year track as a middle-school teacher and coach at Riverside Middle School in Billings, MT - where I was born and raised. During these years I continued to knit and crochet just for fun and gifts. After retiring from teaching I began a four year stretch as a banker at Stockman Bank in Billings.
Being in a blended family now of 9 children, 20 grand children, and one great-grandchild, we tend to travel quite often. Bringing along my projects on the road just adds to the gratification and peacefulness that it brings me. We have four beautiful Mini-Aussies who love to travel and visit family. These amazing family members have allowed us to engage in the breeding of mini-aussies — see V&L Mini Aussie’s on Facebook.
I continued to create inspired items for baby, wedding, and birthday gifts with ongoing positive feedback from everyone. I completely retired at age 62 from my banking career and bought a beautiful home in the forest of Northern Idaho. It was here that I began knitting and crocheting with the possible idea of maybe selling my creations online and at craft fairs…..
In the spring of 2026 I took the next big step to make this dream come true! “VaLories Inspired Creations” became reality with all that entails…including building this website, a database, business set up, and venturing forward from here.
